After Tom Daley sensationally came out on YouTube earlier this week, the question on everyone’s lips was ‘Who is he dating?’
And now an answer has been offered in the form of American screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, as new reports claim he is the lucky guy.
But who exactly is Dustin Lance Black?
10. He’s American
Yes, we already said that. Born in Sacramento, California, Dustin is an All-American guy.
9. He’s attractive
Blond, blue-eyed, and frequently referred to as a ‘hunk’ – we can’t disagree either.
8. He’s smart
The films he has written are intelligent, smart, inspired and poignant (including J Edgar, Milk and Big Love).
7. He was raised as a Mormon
As every good writer should, Dustin used his experiences growing up as a Mormon when he helped write HBO show Big Love which explored polygamy.
6. He’s won an Oscar
His 2008 film Milk – about the gay campaigner Harvey Milk, starring Sean Penn and James Franco – scooped an Oscar for best screenplay. That’s the film world’s equivalent of an Olympic medal, right?
5. He’s 39
Born on January 10, 1974 makes the writer/director 39 years old – and 20 years Daley’s senior.
4. He’s an activist
A staunch campaigner for gay rights, Black has flown the rainbow flag since the early 2000’s when his first short film was released. He has since campaigned for gay rights (including marriage and opposing proposition 8 in the States) and recently ventured to Russia to show support for those opposing anti-homosexual laws there.
3. He has a sex tape
In 2009 a sex tape was leaked showing Dustin engaging in unprotected sex. The star suffered embarrassment as the tape was released without consent and by a bitter former lover. Some challenged him for his status as a good role model following the scandal.
2. He’s funny
As speculation swirls that he is the boyfriend of Tom Daley, the Oscar winner took to his Twitter account to make a thinly-veiled response to the claims. ‘Slept all day today after my trip to Russia. Did I miss anything?’ he asked on the social media site. Prompting LOLs galore.
1. He’s influential
Black made it onto The Advocate’s Forty under 40 list – just one such list celebrating how inspirational he is.
